When joining ICOM Canada you become part of a valuable community of museum professionals dedicated to the advancement of museum practices worldwide, through discussions, professional exchanges and research.ICOM Canada is the National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in Canada, the international organization of museums and museum professionals which is committed to the conservation, continuation and communication to society of the world’s natural and cultural heritage, present and future, tangible and intangible. Joining ICOM Canada puts you in contact with over 24,000 museum professionals from around the world, through publications, websites, conferences, and meetings.

ICOM offers a unique vision with an international scope that promotes innovation. The new millennium has presented numerous challenges to museum professionals. ICOM Canada gives its members access to the major issues, latest approaches and developments in the field of museology. ICOM Canada also provides members the possibility to actively participate in specialized committee meetings which are a forum for disseminating information about their own work or research.

  • Budgets up to $50,000: $594 fee
  • Budgets between $50,000 – $150,000: $864 fee
  • Budgets between $150,000 – $1,500,000: $1,080 fee
  • Budgets between $1,500,000 – $8,000,000: $1,431 fee
  • Budgets between $8,000,000 – $15,000,000: $1,566 fee
  • Budgets over $15,000,000: $1,836 fee

The number of ICOM cards for institutions is as follows:

  • Budgets up to $50,000: 3 cards
  • Budgets between $50,000 – $150,000: 4 cards
  • Budgets between $150,000 – $1,500,000: 5 cards
  • Budgets between $1.500,000 – $8,000,000: 6 cards
  • Budgets between $8,000,000 – $15,000,000: 7 cards
  • Budgets over $15,000,000: 8 cards

To renew your membership, login and complete the renewal form. Please note that you must create a new account on the ICOM Canada website. Your login information will be associated to your email and not your ICOM number.

Q. When will I receive my new card and sticker if I have just become a member?

A.

  1. If you have a membership number and are waiting for a sticker you can request a Letter of Good Standing, which you can present to participating ICOM institutions to access the benefits of your membership.
  2. If you do not yet have a membership number and are waiting for validation as a member, please send us an email at: icomcanada@gmail.com and we will respond as quickly as possible.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IT CAN TAKE UP TO SIX (6) WEEKS TO PROCESS YOUR MEMBERSHIP AS WE RECEIVE ALL CARDS AND STICKERS FROM FRANCE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE.

Q. What are the benefits of becoming a member of ICOM Canada?

A. As a member of ICOM Canada you are privileged to become part of a global community of museologists of around 50,000 in 134 countries. This also means that you receive VIP status and free entry to many museums in Canada, and thousands of museums in Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa.

Q. Can anyone become a member of ICOM Canada?

A. As per ICOM rules, a member must be either a working professional in a museum, a student in a museum studies program or a retired museum professional. If you are applying as a supporter of ICOM Canada, please tell us how you are affiliated with a museum or related institution. Please let us know your institutional affiliation as soon as possible so that we can confirm your membership and validate your new membership request. There is a space on the online membership form to add this information.
