From Decolonization to Indigenization: the Road to Equality
A version of this presentation was given September 2, 2019 by ICOM Canada Board member, Michèle Rivet, C.M. at the 25th ICOM General Assembly in Kyoto, Japan. Michèle's presentation was part of the "Decolonisation and Restitution: Moving towards a more holistic perspective and relational approach" panel (Session 1) moderated by Afşin Altayli (ICOM Secretariat) and Tonya Nelson (Chair, ICOM UK). The presentation spanned two rounds of talks. September 2019 E-Newsletter – Call for Content Submissions
The ICOM Canada Board invites submissions for ICOM Canada’s new e-newsletter. The e-newsletter, distributed three times each year, features news items and short highlight articles, longer feature articles, and photographs or other media relating to ICOM Canada, ICOM’s international committees, and/or other related ICOM initiatives. Long-form articles for this issue will explore the theme of Cultural Diplomacy: global engagement activities that create mutual understanding and trust between nations, organizations and peoples through the work of museums. Submissions may explore how an activity advances global museology, shares and promotes Canadian museology, interfaces between the global and Canadian museum communities, and other interpretations of the theme. Please review the ICOM Canada E-Newsletter Guidelines for Contributors to find word counts and formatting instructions. Submissions will be accepted in French or English and will be translated accordingly. Submissions should be sent as a Microsoft Word document to icomcanada@gmail.com. Since ICOM Canada’s last Annual General Meeting in Halifax in 2016 at the Canadian Museum Association conference much has occurred. Among other activities, one of the most important was the hiring of a digital outreach and communications staff on contract. Her name is Katie Novak. Katie has been working at Fort Calgary in Alberta for more than five years, running their Education Department and also managing social media and marketing. Katie is very involved in her community, volunteering with with ‘Doors Open YYC’, ‘Beakerhead’, and several other community organizations. Katie loves connecting with the museum community across the country, and is very glad to be working with ICOM Canada coordinating social and digital media. We continue to host our Google Hangouts on Air, which are live interviews on Google Hangout, recorded and available on Youtube for viewing.
